a pony, a cake & a creeper

Last night, I attend the wedding of an old family friend. The ceremony was special, the reception was fun and the cake was probably the best wedding cake I've ever had.

Dense chocolate fudge and caramel was the filling for yellow and chocolate cake, and it was iced in what resembled marshmallow cream, in texture & taste...it was divine. In fact, I want some right now.

The reception was held at the Belle Meade Plantation Carriage House - very fitting for the bride, who was/is an avid horse rider. So much so that she also had a mini pony wandering throughout the reception. Random, hilarious...I love it.

And it wouldn't be a worthy blog post without some story. Ann Claire & her parents also attended the wedding and while parking, met a rather larger, old man, I would say to be at least 65, if not older. Said man followed us around literally, all night long. At the beginning, I saw him as harmless - he asked the typical questions you are asked of strangers - where I worked, where I went to school, etc.

I asked him how he knew the bride, and he said he use to manage the toy store she would frequent as a child.

What?

Anyway.

As the night went on, we found Creeper following our every move - went went to the buffet, he went to the buffet. We admired the cake, he admired the cake. We sat, he sat. You get the picture.

Every time he got up to refill his wine glass, he asked me if I wanted some. No thanks.

He asked Ann Claire's mom how she met her "hubs" - you can't say that word if you are of retirement age. You just can't. He also asked for their engagement story - a bit personal, if you ask me.

Now here is where it just gets downright gross.

As AC and I were in line for some cake, Creeper pulls Ann Claire's mom aside and asks if I was available.

"She is...do you have someone in mind?" Thinking he would say a son, grandson, etc.

"Yeah, I was thinking if she liked them older, me!"

Upon hearing that, I shoved every bit of that cake down my throat, grabbed Ann Claire and made a b-line for the valet. Since he was still talking to Ann Claire's parents, I told creeper goodbye as well.

"You're leaving so soon? I was going to ask if you would like to share a dance."

Is this 1949? Share a dance?

All I would think about was that he use to own a toy store. Sick. Gross, sick, aldsjflakdjfl;akj!!!

a justified phobia

One of my weirdest phobias is that I am sorta afraid of the pizza man. I never like to approach them when they deliver to my door. In fact, if I can, I hide from them. I don't know why, I just think they are awkward. No offence if you are one. It's always been an issues of mine.

And today, it was justified.

To avoid getting out in the rain and wind, the girls & I ordered from Papa John's. When lunch arived, I went upfront to sign the receipt and give a tip. Well, so I thought...

The delivery man proceeds to open every pizza box and talk to me about each individual topping. You know how when you order a birthday cake and they show it to you upon pick-up, to make sure everything is correct? Well that's kinda what he did.

"Now on this pizza, you ordered tomatoes, sausage, extra cheese... and on this one, it was pepperoni..."

I am sure he would have told me where each tomato was grown if he had the time.

It literally took like three minutes, which, when you are in the reception area of the office, hearing about each individual olive and onion on your pizza is just kinda strange.

I did give him a nice tip though, not only for having to get out in the rain, but for the nice, descriptive narrative I got about my pizza.

if you give an eatherly a drug test...

You know that book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? It came to mind today when I heard the following story.

Today my sister was chosen for a random drug test at her work. Kinda like the time that I was.

She was literally walking out of the restroom after just having gone "number 1", when she was approached and told to head to a local center and give a urine sample.

So she chugs a bottle of water and off she goes. It took her a while to gather the urge to "go" but she finally went.

She takes the sample to the lady...and what happens next would only happen to me, or someone related to me.

The lady spills the sample. Like completely knocks it off the counter, and all over the floor in a room full of people.

Grace's hard work is ruined. Literally.

After the lady cleaned up the accident, she apologized and said "sorry, this kind of stuff happens sometimes."

You spill urine samples often? Really?

Anywho, now she had to sit for another hour, drink more water, and wait for the urge, again.

A 30 minute procedure took over two hours for Grace to complete.

Of course it would. If you give an Eatherly a drug test, you're going to get a story.

the courtesy van

This morning I took my car in for a routine service at the dealership. I was suppose to receive a loaner car, but for whatever reason there was not one available. I took the courtesy van to work. And thus ensued the most awkward 30 min. I have experienced in a very long time.

There were 4 of us in the shuttle. There was the driver, probably in his early to mid 70's. Me. A professionally dressed lady, probably in her 60's; and a suite-clad man, I would guess to be in his 40's. Now, the people individually were not awkward. But sitting in the confines of a 4-door Acura SUV, in rush-hour traffic, sans radio, with three completely mute strangers is just odd. You know how elevators are awkward? Well this was like that, expect instead of a 1 min. ride, it was a half-hour ride.

I debated whether or not I should make small talk. I was sitting in the front and thought it would be weird to turn completely around to the back seat, and ask what these people did for a living, or comment on the weather.

Thankfully, van driver cut the awkward silences by turning on the radio.
Now you think it gets better. But it doesn't.

He turned the radio to 102.5 "The Party". For the next 15 minutes, we listened as he sang (not loud, but loud enough) to hits like "Sexy Back" and "Born This Way". Dude knew ALL of the words. Remember, he was probably old enough to be a grandfather.

Luckily, I was the first to be dropped off at my office. I don't know if I could have kept a straight face much longer listening to him sing "come here girl, go 'head be gone wit it".

friendly friday

Background: There is only one person I can say I went to school with for 13 years, as well as college. That person is my precious friend Sarah (Davis) Kruspe! We were not only two little kindergartners in Mrs. Smith's class at FRA, but after graduating high school, we both went to Samford. I cried my eyes out at her rehearsal dinner when she married Michael in 2008; she had always been no more than 10 minutes from me and now she was about to start her new life in Chicago. I have visited her several times a year since she has lived in the Windy City; my next time will be in May to meet her sweet twins!

Celebrating her because: Sarah's life is about to get doubly busy when she welcomes a boy and a girl sometime in May or early June. I am beside myself excited to see my best friend take on the most important role of her life as a mamma.

Five things I love about Sarah:
1. She is easily the neatest, cleanest person I know. Don't mess with her stuff, her space or her order; she will bite you.
2. She has some serious "moments". One time she called me on January 25th wishing me a happy birthday, then jumped to the chance to call my friends to plan a party that night. Clearly, my birthday is on August 25th. We'll blame it on her European jetlag.
3. Our first kiss was the same guy - mine on Valentine's Day & her's on Cinco de Mayo.
4. We both share a love for all things vintage.
5. During college, she got a speeding ticket going 37 miles over the limit in BF Alabama. I had to skip class and drive her to her court appearance in a town where I'm pretty sure the population was 12. Maybe 13.

Five things that Sarah loves:
1. Nonfat Chai Lattes at Starbucks--I think I get one every day (even while pregnant)
2. When the cleaning people come
3. My little Oliver St. James McGee Kruspe--you know you love him too, my little bubkins :)
4. Home decor and antique shopping
5. Bravo TV, the Real Housewives and then Teen Mom on MTV is also a secret fav

A little twist...Michael has had some hilarious Facebook statues lately, documenting and describing life with a pregnant wife. He voluntarily sent in his own five things that Sarah loves, and I thought they were too funny not to share.

Five things that Sarah loves, according to Michael:
1. Oliver
2. Cheerios
3. Real Housewives
4. Driving me nuts
5. Chai latte
